Bert DeSousa, M.Sc. – Clinical Director
Bert brings about 20 years of experience in both preclinical and clinical research. Bert earned his undergraduate degree from Queen’s University and graduate degree from the University of Toronto in behavioural pharmacology. During this time, Bert authored numerous research papers published in top peer-reviewed psychopharmacology journals and several book chapters. After starting his clinical research career with Ventana Clinical Research as a Clinical Scientist, Bert moved to “big pharma” to work with Boehringer Ingelheim (BI), Canada. There he served as a senior member of numerous clinical research teams where he led both local (Canada and the US) and then global research initiatives. During this time, he also had overall responsibility for two global medico-marketing mandates and participated as the Canadian lead on several international clinical program development teams. After leaving BI, Bert was given a mandate to help build and lead AXON Medical Communications’ Clinical Research Group, which he did over the course of the next 5 years acting first as Senior Director of Medical and Scientific Affairs and later as Vice President of Clinical Research. Bert then went out on his own, working as clinical research consultant for 4 years, helping his clinical service provider and biopharmaceutical clients move various drug candidates through the clinical drug development process.
